Not sure where to start?

Wander North

Travel at the pace
of the place.

Four things that are true of every journey we plan, from a weekend cabin to a fortnight on the ridge.

Eight people, never more

Small enough to share one table at dinner and one guide on the trail. Most journeys run with five or six.

Guides who live here

Every route is led by someone who grew up on it. They know where the light lands at four o’clock and which farm sells the good cheese.

Walks, not marches

Distances are chosen so there is time to stop. If the group wants an extra hour by the lake, the plan bends.

Light on the land

Family-run stays, food from within the valley, and a share of every booking to the trail associations that keep the paths open.

Wander North

Good company goes a long way.

A local view.
A warmer welcome.

Local knowledge. Good company.

Travellers’ words

Postcards, sent back.

Notes that arrived after the journey, printed with permission.

“Mara knew the name of every peak and every farmer. By the third day we were being waved at from tractors. That does not happen on a bus tour.”
Helena BrandtDolomite Trails, September
“We asked for slow and got slow. Long breakfasts, one walk a day, a lake at the end of it. I came home rested for the first time in years.”
Oscar LindgrenThe Lakeside Retreat, June
“Our teenagers put their phones down. Voluntarily. The glacier did it, but Rowan helped.”

Before you go

Questions from
the trailhead.

Fitness, weather, packing and the rest. Anything else, a guide will call you back the same day.

All questions
How fit do I need to be?

If you can walk for three hours with a few stops, you can join any of our easy and moderate journeys. Ridge routes ask for a little more; each page shows daily distance and climb.

What happens if the weather turns?

Your guide has a valley-floor plan for every mountain day. Some of the best days we have had were the wet ones, spent in a hut with a stove.

What should I pack?

A layered kit list arrives with your booking. Boots, waterproofs and a daypack are essential; poles and a flask are recommended. Everything else stays in the cabin.

Can I come alone?

Around a third of our travellers do. Rooms are single by default, and small groups make it easy to find company on the trail without having to.

How do I get there?

Every journey starts at a railway station. We meet you on the platform, and the return train is booked into the itinerary.
